Health & Safety Induction
This course is designed for organizations who wish to induct employee’s in the “Basic” fundamentals regarding “Health & Safety” in the workplace. The course facilitates a baseline knowledge of health and safety environment.

Health & Safety Representatives & Committees
Section 17 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act requires the appointment of Occupational Health and Safety Representatives and the establishment of Committees. This course incorporates theoretical, practical and reflexive learning so that the learner is exposed to the rights, requirements, functions and duties of the Health and Safety Representatives at work.

Course Contents – Learner Program Outcomes
l Understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the principals of the Act. 
l Know the duties of employers and employees. 
l Know the functions of health and safety reps and be able to carry out these functions. 
l Know the reason for incident investigations and be able to participate 
l Understand the functions of, and actively participate in health and safety committees.

General Health & Safety 
The course provides employees with a better understanding of the “Health & Safety” principals, systems and hurdles employees are faced with within the working environment. The objective is for all employees to adopt and encourage a “Healthy & Safe” working ethos at work. 

Course Contents – Learner Program Outcomes
l Correctly interpret the essential sections of the Act (Act 85 of 1993) and will be able to explain the importance of these sections within the workplace context 
l Carrying out practical, safe, work procedures in order to demonstrate an ability to implement theoretical knowledge effectively in the workplace 
l Carrying out an assessment of the effectiveness of procedures and recommending suitable remedial action 
l Explaining safety, health and environmental requirements in a workplace 
l Applying safety, health and environmental principles and procedures in a workplace 
l Exercising safety, health and environmental responsibilities in a workplace

OHAS Act & COID Act 
This course equips learners with the ability to understand and interpret the terminology used and objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. A variety of case studies are presented and discussed in the learning environment, thus bringing in practical and reflexive role-play workplace scenarios. Learner program outcomes include exposure to the national and provincial structures of the legislation (OH&S & COID) and an understanding of how this ultimately affects their business. Learners are also introduced to the history of the legislation and how it was amended through the years. 

Course Contents – Learner Program Outcomes
l Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of those Acts, and sections of legislation, that pertain to OH&S implementation and injury and diseases in the workplace by explaining their requirements 
l Explain necessary reporting procedures and their relevant forms, such as Annexure 1 and WC2, to ensure appropriate procedures are initiated and expedited 
l Explain both legislative requirements and company procedures and the consequences of not following them correctly, resulting in delays and non-conformances 
l Correctly report and IOD or Occupational Disease to the appropriate authority 
l Correctly and effectively carry out an investigation in respect of an injury or disease in the workplace 
l Explain the basic knowledge of the Compensation of Occupational Injuries and Disease Act, the Occupational Diseases for Mines and Works Act and Chapter 23 of the Mine Occupational Health and Safety Act 
l Describe the standard procedure of the reporting of an accident or disease 
l Describe the compensation procedure

Accident / Incident Investigation
This course is designed to equip employees with the various incident and accident investigation tools / systems when an emergency response is necessary, as well implement control measures in the workplace. Case studies are used to encourage discussion around the relevant documentation on how to lodge a claim for compensation with the Compensation Commissioner, and the importance of understanding the Occupational Health and Safety Act and what the Act states regarding incidents and accidents.

l Know the reasons for investigating incidents/ accidents. 
l Know the investigation methods and be able to carry this out. 
l Be able to complete the required documentation and report on suggested corrective action. 
l The OH&S Act requirements for investigation.

l Conduct a full investigation, with reporting, corrective action and follow up.

Health & Safety Supervisor
This is an excellent management program equipping supervisors, divisional coordinators or managers, with an “all round holistic” health and safety (OH&S) knowledge and the necessary skills to effectively manage their health and safety systems and teams. The program covers the OH&S Representative, Accident and Incident Investigation, the COID and OH&SA Act. The objective is to equip the supervisor with confidence and a structured approach to handing OH&S matters in the organization.

Risk Assessment
This exciting “preventative” program, equips learners with the necessary knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to implement and conduct the relevant risk assessments in the work place. Different terminologies like risk management, hazards (perils), risks, non-conformances and corrective measures are explained and become familiar to the learner.

l Explaining the legal and specified requirements pertaining to conducting occupational health and safety (OH&S) inspections 
l Planning OH&S inspections and workplace hazard identification 
l Conducting inspections to identify hazards 
l Reporting on OH&S inspections and remedying workplace hazards and associated risks 
l Interpret the Occupational Health and Safety Act with regard to planned inspections, hazard identification and the assessment of risks 
l Formulate and prepare inspection checklists and tools in order to carry out specific audits, pertaining to hazards, in the workplace

Health & Safety Officers
The practical implementation of the C.E.O.’s duties are often directed through an appointed Health & Safety Officer (Safety Manager / Loss Control Officer / EHS Officer or SHEQ Manager). Various titles and terms relating to safety are utilized within the workplace and are generally interchangeable with the same essential goal – implementing Health and Safety in the workplace. The key to a workplace that is safe and without risk to the health of employees is quality training, based on a sound understanding, and interpretation of legal requirements. 

It is with this philosophy in mind that the "Health & Safety Officer" skills program accredited through HWSETA (Health and Welfare), was designed equipping potential Health & Safety Officers with the essential knowledge and management systems and tools, enabling them to successfully manage and begin a career in the field of occupational health and safety environment.

First Aid level 1 
Entry level course on emergency principles and is accredited through the Department of labour, as well as the HWSETA. In level 1, learners are taught how to perform basic life support and first aid in emergencies. Learners are required to cover a certain amount of theoretical knowledge as well as perform determined practical skill competently, such as CPR and Choking. 

First Aid level 1 is the starting point and a learner may progress all the way to First Aid level 3!
